Purpose
This policy has been drawn up in order to reduce
our Carbon Footprint.
The ecological state of the environment is of great
concern to our company and we have recognised the need
to safeguard the world’s depleting resources
and to reduce harmful emissions, which are causing
untold damage to our planet
By implementing this policy, we hope to educate our
STAFF and GUESTS in how to become greener, and more
conscious of the effects of their actions or lack of.
To achieve and beat any targets which may be set
out in the forth coming Waste Management bill and to
comply with The Polokwane Declaration.
Scope
This policy will apply to ALL employees, (inc casuals & trainees)
management, supervisors, directors, contractors, GUEST
and as much as possible our suppliers.
To work hand
in hand with our local Municipality and where possible,
become involved with any actions that they propose.
Responsibility
Compilation of the policy will be the responsibility
of the General Manager (Simon Sutherland).
The policy will be managed by the Duty Managers, overseen
by the General Manager.
All STAFF will have to partake and become involved
in the implementation.
Effective date
01st July 2007 onwards and will be updated as & when
required in accordance with the new Waste Management
bill.
| Water |
- Any dripping taps to be repaired
immediately.
- All taps to be fitted with ‘volumeisers”
- Reduce towel washing by appealing to our GUESTS
- Defrosting overnight in the fridge as opposed to using water.
- Use bore hole for ground watering.
- Ensure washing machines are fully loaded and correct cycles are
programmed.

- All gas equipment to be regularly
serviced to maintain maximum
efficiency.
- Monitor usage gas ovens & heaters and keep to a minimum

| Petrol |
- Usage of company vehicles to be
monitored and kept to a minimum
- Trips to be planned correctly to avoid additional unnecessary mileage
- Vehicles to be serviced regularly to maintain maximum efficiency

| Wood |
- Braai fires to be lit at the appropriate
times to avoid excessive wood
burning
|
| Chemicals |
– Where possible environmentally
friendly and organic cleaning products
to be used throughout the hotel
|
| Gardening |
- Only indigenous plants, trees & shrubs
to be planted.
- Lawn clippings be used as fertiliser.
- Plant more of our own vegetables when & where possible.
- Use of chemical fertilisers to be kept to a minimum

| Purchases |
- Where possible bulk orders be
placed which will reduce deliveries, save
on fuel and reduce paper invoices and delivery notes.
- Purchase from local producers to reduce transport (food miles)
- Purchase from environmentally aware suppliers
- Purchase organically produced fruit & vegetables and reared animals

| General |
- Internal communications, such
as minutes, memos etc to be done electronically
to
reduce paper usage.
- Investigate the possibility of non paper check ins & checkouts.
